Greater Cincinnati Society of Professional Journalists Presents
Social Media 101 for Journalists
Thursday, June 25, 2009
11:30 am to 1 pm (lunch included)
Frost Brown Todd
PNC Center, Fifth & Main, 22nd floor
Whether you’re already interacting with readers in your news report or you’re exploring possibilities, this program will explore successful models for recruiting users, incentivizing involvement and engaging citizens and consumers in a variety of activities, from acting as community watchdogs to forming social networks. You’ll come away with strategies for building dynamic interaction and reader engagement that can strengthen your ties to the community. What you’ll learn:
- How Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other tools can help you extend your “brand” and engage in a dynamic conversation with people in your town who may never subscribe to your publications and stations.
- Why forward-thinking newsrooms are creating positions like “community manager” and “social media coordinator” and how to fill these jobs with journalists who will truly engage with others and help you cultivate contacts that can lead to more informed and accurate coverage.
- How to avoid the pitfalls associated with journalists using social media tools and the legal implications of this new medium from an old-school perspective.
- How the corporate and political world is using these tools to bypass traditional media, and how journalists need to keep up to avoid being made obsolete.
Attendees must RSVP by Friday, June 19, 2009. For more information, contact GC SPJ Vice President/Programming Chair Aiesha D. Little at aiesha_little@yahoo.com
