CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is seeking nominations for new members of its Hall of Fame.
Hall of Fame honorees are members of the print and electronic media who made their careers in the Greater Cincinnati region as well as those who, having contributed significantly to this region, continued their journalistic careers elsewhere.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 30. The chapter will induct new Hall of Fame members in September at its annual awards banquet.
Nominations can be submitted by e-mail to the chair of the SPJ Hall of Fame committee, Scott Aiken, at Scott.Aiken35@gmail.com <mailto:Scott.Aiken35@gmail.com> , or by regular mail to Society of Professional Journalists, Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 1934, Cincinnati, Ohio 45201-1934.
Nominations must include a paragraph highlighting the nominee's accomplishments, contact information for the nominee, and the name and contact information of the person making the nomination.
Among those inducted into the Hall of Fame over the past 18 years, have been Red Barber (WLW, Brooklyn Dodgers, and NPR), Al Schottelkotte (Channel 9 news anchor), Wendell Dabney (Cincinnati Union), E.W. Scripps (founder of Scripps-Howard and United Press International), Al Segal (Cincinnatus columnist for the Cincinnati Post), Nick Clooney (WKRC-TV news anchor and Cincinnati Post columnist), Melvin Grier (Cincinnati Post photographer), and Ben Kaufman (Cincinnati Enquirer reporter).
Last year the inductees were Lewis and Powell Crosley, pioneers in radio and founders of WLW radio and TV; Ron Fischer, WCPO/Channel 9 videographer; Tom Hubbard, Cincinnati Enquirer photographer and Ohio State University photojournalism professor, and Wayne Perry, Cincinnati Post managing editor, features editor, and reporter.
