Congratulations to Laure Quinlivan, Phil Drechsler, Bob Morford and Kevin Roach of WCPO-TV for winning the public service in television journalism award for their Cincinnati Archdiocese investigation. Judges said their work “brings tough questions and truth to an often veiled subject.”

Also, another bravo to Jeff Hirsh and Jeff Barnhill of WKRC-TV for “Finding Family,” about a Holocaust survivor’s return to Europe and the family who saved him. Hirsch and Barnhill won in the documentary category.

Join the YMCA, get SPJ for $7

Now, if you join the YMCA and show your valid SPJ membership card, save $75 instantly off the joining fee.

So, how does this work? Well, if you don't belong to the Y and join now you get $75 off the joining fee. For families wanting to get a membership, the joining fee is typically $150. With a valid SPJ membership card, make that $75. If you're single, the fee is normally $125. Now, with your card, get it for $50. There's no discount on the monthly rate, which right now is $71 and $50, for families and individuals, respectively. How do you get to join SPJ for $7? Well, saving $75 on a Y membership would make only an extra $7 you'd have to pay to join SPJ. Whadda deal!

Got an idea?

Journalists in Cincinnati haven’t had a voice to communicate with one another for years. SPJ is about to change that. And you can help. If you have an idea for an article for our weekly online newsletter or want to write a longer article for our print newsletter – or write for our web site, it’s easy. Or if you have an announcement or just some thing to say, plus SPJ is always looking for program ideas, send an e-mail to onpress@cincyspj.org.
