News Record wins best in state

Ohio SPJ named The News Record Ohio’s best student newspaper at its annual banquet. The University of Cincinnati’s student-run publication was given the honor at a Sept. 18 banquet in Cleveland. Several students traveled to Cleveland to accept the award. The Ohio SPJ is comprised of representatives from the three Ohio professional SPJ chapters in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus.

The News Record is advised by longtime Cincinnati Post reporter and editor, Al Salvato. Josh Rinaldi served as editor during the 2003-2004 school year. Judges said: “This campus daily takes itself seriously, and provides views of the nation and world as well as university news.”

The Cincinnati Pro Chapter congratulates UC and TNR staff on this distinct honor. To see all winners in this year’s contest, please visit the Ohio SPJ Web page: http://www.ohiospjawards.org

Listen to Deters/Rucker debate

Hamilton County prosecutor candidates Joe Deters and Fanon Rucker debated on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at Xavier University's Cintas Center.

The debate was moderated by Byron P. White, director for community building at Xavier. Four local reporters from the Society of Professional Journalists Cincinnati Pro Chapter and the National Association of Black Journalists/Cincinnati, sponsors of the event, served as panelists. The debate was open to the public.

Now, thanks to WVXU-FM, download and listen to the debate through the Cincy SPJ Web site. Click here and follow the link near bottom of page.
