Calling all editors

Cincinnati Enquirer

Andy Telli, formerly an assistant metro editor with the Nashville Banner, has been hired as an assistant local news editor at the Enquirer. His staff will include the police reporter, courts reporter, federal reporter and a general assignment reporter.

Lisa Donovan has become City Hall reporter for the Enquirer. Former City Hall reporter Laura Goldberg has become an enterprise and general assignment reporter.

Marie McCain, of the Holland, Mich., Sentinel has accepted a reporting position at the Enquirer. She was scheduled to start April 1.

Saundra Amrhein, a reporter with Florida Today, has been hired as a suburban staff reporter. She was scheduled to start April 6.

Rachel Melcer, previously with the Chicago Tribune residency program, has accepted a position as a reporter at the Enquirer. She was scheduled to begin work April 13.

Beth Menge, a suburban reporter, has resigned from the Enquirer to pursue other opportunities.

Janet C. Leach, managing editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer, has resigned to become the editor of the Akron Beacon-Journal.

Darrell S. Pressley, a Northern Kentucky bureau reporter, has resigned to join the Boston Herald as an education reporter. His last day will be March 6.

Kristi Blackford-Bowden, assistant Kentucky editor, has been named Kentucky editor. She replaces Andrew Oppmann, who resigned to become managing editor of the Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser.

Leisa Richardson, assistant Metro editor, has resigned to become the editor and publisher of the Anderson Herald Bulletin in her hometown of Anderson, Ind.

Jeff Harrington, business reporter covering Procter & Gamble and Cincinnati SPJ board member, has resigned to accept a business staff position at the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times.

Scott MacGregor, backup last year on the White Sox and Cubs beats at the Chicago Tribune, has been hired to cover the Reds.

Donna Marsh, copy editor, has resigned to accept a public relations job with the Community Action Agency.

Phil Pina, copy editor, has moved from the copy desk to become a general assignment Metro reporter.

Gina Gentry-Fletcher, Metro reporter, has resigned to accept a public relations job with the Oak Hills Local School District.

Enquirer business reporter Guy Boulton has resigned to accept a reporting position with the Salt Lake Tribune.

Enquirer photographer Kevin Miyazaki has resigned to become director of photography at Cincinnati Magazine.

Enquirer suburban reporter and columnist John Eckberg has accepted a business reporting position at the Enquirer.


Cincinnati Magazine


Kitty Morgan joins the magazine as Editor, replacing Emily Foster, who returns to Columbus Monthly where she is senior editor. Morgan previously was director of new product development at F&W Publications and has experience at the Cincinnati Enquirer, Orange County Register and Sunset magazine.

Colleen Lanchester joins the magazine as Art Director after a short stint as a freelance designer. She previously spent two years as a designer for the Enquirer, as well as for Sanger & Eby Design and several medium-sized newspapers around the country.

Mike Mitzel is the magazine's Associate Art Director, a newly created position specifically for the design of the magazine's special advertising sections. Mitzel comes to the magazine after working as art director for The Artist's Magazine and Watercolor magazine at F&W Publications.

Kevin Miyazaki joins the magazine as Photography Director, a newly created position, after seven years as a photographer for the Enquirer. Miyazaki joined the Enquirer after graduating from Drake University.

Doug Uhlenbroch joins the magazine as Special Sections Editor, a newly created position.

Skip Tate is now Associate Editor of the magazine after working for two years as a staff writer.


Calling all editors

Are you a terrific headline writer? Then you'll want to be considered for inclusion in the upcoming Society of Professional Journalists book, America's Best Headlines-And the People Who Write Them. Slated for publication in autumn 1998, the text will gather a collection of the country's most clever headlines as well as offer interviews with dozens of editors about the art and craftiness of headline writing.

Best Headlines author (and Cincinnati chapter officer) Felix Winternitz will profile fifty or so of the country's top headline writers, along with their favorite heads and insider tips.
