The Founders Day Lecture at the Mercantile highlights the work of a regional writer on the anniversary of the Library’s founding. 2009 will feature a talk by JON HUGHES on the fascinating life of author LAFCADIO HEARN. Hearn, best-known for his books about Japan, spent the early part of his career as a reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Cincinnati Commercial.
Professor Hughes will focus his remarks on Hearn’s Cincinnati years. Hughes, professor of English & Journalism and Journalism Program Director at the University of Cincinnati, is an award-winning reporter, author and photojournalist and author of several books on Lafcadio Hearn.
